St Tudy Methodist Church
St Tudy church photo_edited.jpg

The first St Tudy Methodist Chapel was built in 1824 on the outskirts of the village, although the actual size of the chapel is unknown.  A larger church was built in the village in 1846 which was adequate until a greatly increased membership resulted from a mission in 1866.  This led to the building of the current church in 1866.  The previous chapel was converted into two cottages, still known as a Chapel House.

An extension was added in 1937 for the Sunday School.  In 1959 a two reed manual organ was purchased to replace the old organ.

Record show that St Tudy gave two Ministers to the Methodist Church, William Oke, who volunteered for missionary work in the West Indies in 1821, but after only 5 years on the islands he was sadly drowned in a storm while crossing between islands.  The other was William Lockwood Lang who returned twice as a Minister in the Camelford and Wadebridge Circuit.
